Faces of CSIRO

Communications Advisor, Brand and Marketing

“Apart from posing as a gnome in random gardens I also work as part of the communications team in brand and marketing. I’m a pretty new edition to the CSIRO family. And since I seem to meet a constant flow of people who have been here for upwards of 10 years, I’m always reminded that this must be a pretty great place to work. I’m a visual person, basically a sucker for pretty pictures. As a child I had a strange fascination with collecting pictures and little bits of paper that I liked. I’d sort them into piles, fold them into boxes and envelopes, and then stash them in random places around the house. One day mum found an envelope full of tiny paper shoes that I had cut out of some old magazines. You never know when a nine year old (okay maybe I was fifteen but who’s keeping track?) might need 100 miniature paper shoes. Fast forward to the land of the internet and my visual collections have gone digital, however my love for printed design still runs thick. I try to curb my appetite for textured paper and magazine photography by limiting myself to a few shoe boxes of my most prized paper possessions. Being able to work with the CSIRO brand and use imagery and design to tell the stories of our people, smash lab coated stereotypes, and discover the secret talents of my colleagues (what you’re a popular New Zealand reggae DJ as well??) really brings me back to the joy of those childhood collecting days, but this time I actually get to find out the story behind the image and that’s the bee’s knees! Who knows, maybe the person sitting next to you is secretly stockpiling miniature paper shoes (that’s not weird at all right?!).”
