Faces of CSIRO

“I am one of the last dinosaurs in CSIRO — I’ve been here since 1983 so I have seen a lot of change. Since I started there’s been a lot of restructuring, which, for me, has meant a lot of adaptation and learning of new skills. It hasn’t been easy, at times quite stressful. But I think you have to let go of what was and be open to new opportunities. At the moment I’m working as a research operations officer, which means collecting up chemicals for disposal, checking assets, monitoring special purpose vehicles usage, solving any problems I can. As I’ve been here for a long time, I know my co-workers quite well. We get together outside of work, go to music events, the theatre, movies. In my spare time I sing in the Canberra Gay and Lesbian Qwire, and enjoy photographing the life around me. My most pleasant memories in CSIRO have been the friendships and the socialising that has come through being here. There certainly have been a lot of characters working here.”
